Warriors Welcome Meet
December 3, 2017

On December 3, 2017 our very own Club Warriors organization hosted its very first officially-sanctioned swim meet at the University of Waterloo PAC centre. The meet was intended for newer swimmers with AG1 and Novice swimmers competing. Visiting clubs included Guelph Marlin Aquatic Club, Mississauga Swimming, and Wilmot Aquatic Aces.

72 CW swimmers participated in this meet and brought home 67 gold, silver and bronze ribbons. What a huge accomplishment! All swimmers did a fantastic job, and many personal bests were set. Since this was the inaugural Warriors Welcome meet, all swimmers who placed first in their respective event set meet records that won’t be challenged again until next year.

The morning started off with parents battling the dense fog to get their swimmers to the pool on time for the early 7 a.m. warm ups. There were a number of highlights including very special visits from the University of Waterloo Mascot (King Warrior) and of course Santa Claus who handed out candy canes. Santa’s visit brought smiles that almost rivaled the swimmers’ smiling faces when they received ribbons for placing in the top 3 of their respective swim heat.

There were also some moments that were learning experiences for all involved, including a broken bell that required some McGyver-ing to get working again, swimmers forgetting to put on goggles before diving into the pool only to stop so they could wipe their eyes and put the goggles back on, and kids swimming the Individual Medley stopping at the wall during the race to ask officials what stroke was next.

The coaches again did a fantastic job preparing our swimmers and cheering them on during each event. A big thank you certainly has to go to all the volunteers and CW committee members for organizing and making this first CW swim meet a success.
